The presence of journalists lurking on GP-UK, and the number of
articles in the GP press which originate from this list, has been
commented on from time to time. Pulse appears to be foremost in
"surfing" this particular source of topical news.
It is a symbiotic relationship. They get news, we get new members.
How would list members feel if we were to ask the press to attribute
their source to GP-UK rather than referring tangentially to
"cyber-conversations" and the like?
Perhaps articles which originated here could carry a small
postscript along the lines of:
"GP-UK is the first internet mailing list for UK general practice
- a "virtual conference in cyberspace". To join, simply send an
email to [log in to unmask] with the text:
join gp-uk
stop
Advantages:
A link between the "one-to-many" format of the printed media and the
"many-to-many" format of a mailing list; expanded membership;
fresh blood; new ideas; etc. etc.
Disadvantages:
Would dilute the present membership; crowd out the enthusiasts;
make the list unwieldy etc. etc.
What do you think?
