We've just obtained an HP ScanJet 4C and upgraded the Omnipage software
in it to Omnipage Pro 7 (Win95). I'd be very interested to hear what
successful uses others have made with this. Storage is not too much of a
problem, as we've bought the 1GB Jaz discs. We actually were not going
to scan in patient letters (see recent thread), but rather intended to
store the large numbers of bits of paper about which we think "We might
need that in the future" or else "we ought to store this for posterity".
Has anyone tried mass scale OCR of documents? How time consuming was it,
and would we just be better off storing the documents as pictures? If
the latter, what resolution (dpi) have you found to be the best
compromise between legibility and disc space?
