Various ways to measure....
1. Elbow at side, flexed to 15 degrees, forearm mid pronation/supination head
of ulna to floor 4" lateral to foot ....This is often the same as:
2. Greater Trochanter to floor.
Remember to measure in appropriate footware.
Use in opposite hand to affected lower limb - if used on the same side
particulary in hip problems can increase forces though hip joint significantly.
The hand grip of stick can make a great difference to its functional length. if
ordinary type bent handle higher ..the more comfortable flatter handles the
stick may need to be a little higher.
However would consider changing height and type of stick in certain neurological
pathologies.
eg Parkinsonism may use slightly higher stick to discourage flexion - as stick
may be used for balance rather than distributing weight.
I could go on for ages probably not helpful...
