Peter and others with problems of decoding MIME messages may be interested in
the latest version of Wincode that I have just download. Though it is for Win
3.1x a Win 95 is under development, but I believe you can run Win 3.1x under Win
95.
Windcode is a program that encodes and decodes a variety of formats including
UU, XX, BINHEX and MIME*. In most cases it will automatically recognise the
correct encoded format. It can handle multi-part files.
It can be linked to PKunzip/zip to uncompress/compress files.
It can be linked to DOS virus scanners to automatically check out decoded files
*
It can be hooked into AOL, CompuServe*, and Netscape and other e-mail programs.
This adds a Wincode menu to the menu bar so that mail messages can be
decode/encode directly from/into the mail window. *
Files to encode can be selected via a file dialog box or by drag and drop. *
It can use your Winsock to directly send an encoded file by e-mail without the
need to start an e-mail program.
To top it all, Wincode is freeware :-) There is a full help file at $10 but this
is only needed for those who want to embed Wincode within their own programs.
Wincode version 2.7.3 is available from Snappy Software at
http://www.members.global2000.net/snappy/wincode.html
My first impressions are that this is an extremely useful and powerful program.
Items marked * have been tried.
2 other useful programs I have recently downloaded and have found useful and
good include:
- Wordview 6 from Microsoft to view Word files (for those that do not
have Word)
- WinZip version 6.0a from Nico Mak Computing
Regards and Seasons Greetings,
Alan
