Hi Henry
The new GPASS currently under development will (they tell me)
a) give a LAN development for all the users in the practice and e-mail
facilities for labs etc.
b) interchangeable within practice and from old dumb terminals. Swopping notes
with another practice is on the wish list .
c) & d) aah - not yet known. Program only partly written to be fair. But
will mean going from unix box and dumb terminals to server with PCs at work
stations. Most current cabling should cope (they say) 50% reimbursement only
so far for all hardware. The software of GPASS is free to users and there is
good software support. Training is available at reasonable rates.
In the early stages design is to allow both systems to run in parallel
initially so that terminals can be bought over a period of time depending on
individual funds and partners serum luddite levels. I'm not techno enough to
explain how.
Having slumbered on it's laurels for some years, the Scottish Office has put
considerable finance into the three year migration (currently at 14 months and
to time). A system used by 79% of Scottish GPs and and about 50% of N Ireland
GPs has a large enough user base to push when it came to shove.
All this and Glasgownet too!
Seasons greetings
