I don't have any ideas about persuading them TCI but I do have
experience of one (very good) local residential home that does
routinely bus its residents down to the surgery, including the
wheelchair bound. Obviously it is better for the doctors, but in my
experience it is also better for the patients. The residents all enjoy
the trip out and I really feel they get a better deal from us doctors.
We get a decent chance to review their polypharmacy on the computer
and, sitting in my consulting room like a normal patient with their
own 10 minute slot, they get my undivided attention. With the best
will in the world it is difficult to do the same when you see them in
matron's office at the home. Inevitably you end up talking to the
staff rather than the patient and then rushing on to the next one. I
only wish that more homes were as enlightened.
