Dear All
I would be very interested to learn if anyone else is implementing the
visiting guidelines produced by the North Staffordshire LMC. As far as I know
they have been adopted by the NAGPC and were also approved by the East Kent
Health Authority and East Kent LMC. However, nothing official has emanated
from the latter two bodies and the onus of informing the patients of the new
(!) Paragraph 13 has predictably fallen onto the shoulders of the GPs and
usually in confrontational situations which doesn't help.
My own major gripe is with proprietors of private nursing and residential
homes. We are placed under great pressure to make our premises accessible for
the disabled but you try and get someone to the Surgery from one of these
establishments in a wheelchair and all you get is "we always have visits", "
it's cold and/or wet out" or we have no transport or staff to accompany the
patient. These are said in the guidelines to be non-medical problems but then
one gets the reply that "Well, you haven't seen him/her for two weeks + n days
and we wouldn't want a PM now, would we?
What do others think? Any useful strategies?
Regards
Peter
