Here's another one to cope with!
I have been getting e-mail and using newsgroups for nearly a decade, and
the only way I know of coping with it is to skim the headers. I don't read
the bodies of 95% of the stuff I see. I reckon it takes me about a minute,
tops to deal with GP-UK this way, unless I actually post a message - and
GP-UK is one of the mailing lists I devote the most attention to. I hope
this helps.

I've been lurking here for about two weeks and have finally flipped. Another
41 messages today. Time management has taken on a new perspective. Is anyone
else having trouble finding time to get through all the (often v. useful) info?
Is it only superpeople who are likely to have time to comment ?
I think I shall have to take a holiday .... suspend, suspend, suspend...
