Bill
I've had the same problem with a 550C and although have now upgraded it would
be nice to repair the old one. Do you have a specific contact number for such
support?
It might also be of use to others that a I bought a Deskjet 820Cxi on the
basis that it was advertised as being a printer that would work with Windows
programs and DOS ones within a Windows box. I naively assumed that all DOS
programs running under Win95 were in a DOS box unless specifically set to run
in MS_DOS mode. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the case and I should
have laid out the extra for an 870CXI :-(
If anyone has found another solution to this I would be very interested. I can
use the 550C as a slave printer during remote EMIS sessions but not the 820Cxi
- very important to me (see previous postings)
Cheers

There was a problem with some HP printers of this era where the rollers
that pick up the paper were not rough enough - after a while they
stopped working every time. I had a 520 which the dealers could find
no answer for, but HP sent out a (free) kit to roughen the wheels.
After 20 min abrading them with what looked like a spring loaded pan
scrubber, the printer has worked without fault since.
HP might still have some left if you ask them.
