There was a problem with some HP printers of this era where the rollers
that pick up the paper were not rough enough - after a while they
stopped working every time. I had a 520 which the dealers could find
no answer for, but HP sent out a (free) kit to roughen the wheels.
After 20 min abrading them with what looked like a spring loaded pan
scrubber, the printer has worked without fault since.
HP might still have some left if you ask them.
