OK, wrong analogy. How about n-dimensional tug o'war. ie.
the teams (politicos & all other interested parties),
the rope (the NHSE, hence it doesn't know which way its going),
the knot (the NHS pulled tighter & tighter).
Taken to its logical conclusion, will something have to give?
