I admit it, I am a member. Up to the 1st november, it was to be able to use
the BMA deputising service cheaper (aka Healthcall). Now I have to justify
myself. I do actually read the BMJ (sorry) and am not yet nerd enough to read
the online version (also can't take the computer into the toilet/acess
between patients/take it on the tram/ etc. etc)
I still feel that there is a need for a central organisation of doctors to
represent some of the views of the profession to central government, whether
they listen or not. The overall view of some sort of large body of the
medical practitioners of this country (and no, I don't think they are
representative, and no I haven't stood for office) is required to try and
prevent some of the excesses of change within the NHS. And no, I don't think
they are suceeding to prevent the worst excesses of change, but what can you
do?
