The Clinical Decision Making Group(MEDG) at MIT works on medical
applications utilizing artificial intelligence and other computer
science techniques. They work on both theoretical and applied
projects, including the following:
W3-EMRS is a radical attempt to re-architect medical record systems
to support common, multi-institutional access and increased
flexibility while protecting patient privacy. It uses the evolving
technology of the Web to provide universal platform-independent
access and to make implementation simple by using industry-wide
approaches. Fielded demonstrations include a Web-based hospital
results reporting system, an ICU real-time monitoring application, and
multi-institutional access (to small "scrubbed" databases) to support
an emergency room scenario.
Guardian Angel proposes development of lifetime patient-centered
comprehensive health information systems that not only record
personal medical information but help to interpret data, "sanity
check" decisions and plans, educate the patient to his or her medical
concerns, and form the basis for communication with care providers,
peer support groups, etc.
