I have recently started an academic course which utilises a web page and
have
been having trouble accessing the web page in the evening. Access is
frustratingly slow and documents often hang up during transmission - for
long
enough for me to give up. O.K. my software isn't brilliant but it works
fine in
the early morning so I am inclined to attribute my problems to congestion
at
Compuserve. Are other providers likely to be faster? If so any
recommendations?
Its possible that some of the problem is your web browser; Netscape 2.1
which is the standard with Compuserve is a lot slower than Internet
Explorer 3 (Microsoft); the browser in Compuserve's own pages is slower
still. America On Line is a bit quicker but I can't stand the adverts and
colours myself. I have found that using Netscape or Explorer via
Compuserve but without going through their homepage to start with
speeds things up a bit (i.e. set up direct short cut to them on your PC
menu screen).I'm no nerd, however, and no doubt others will have better
ideas. I note the comments about 'the Yanks' using net in our evening
time.
