Adrian Elliot-Smith of Billingham wrote to ask whether anyone had easy
access to any figures on private medicine.
I have a copy of Laing's Review of Private Healthcare 1996, published
in August, which is regarded as the industry's bible of statistics. It
should be, as it costs _130!
I could lend it to you, but only for a week, as I use it constantly as
a reference book.
If you are really keen you can contact the publishers Laing and Buisson
in London NW1 OEB; Tel.No. 0171 284 1268. Fax: 0171 267 8269. Or if
you're short of money you can contact me on 0181 652 8760. My e-mail

This tome is full of every statistic you could dream of. It also
reveals that for the first time the NHS has become Britain's largest
single provider of private healthcare -- a startling statistic which
was the subject of an article I wrote in both HOSPITAL DOCTOR and
DOCTOR newspapers in September.
