Hi Tom
This good get a bit philosophical and involve "big questions" but here I
go!!
If God can't hear and respond to the sufferings of people in Rwanda,
Bosnia, the murdered, raped, and tortured elsewhere, why on earth should
healers who mostly work in a Christian or pseudo religious framework, be
able to engage the deity?
It is obviously to me a cruel hoax practised sometimes for gain or power
or just out of blind superstition and ignorance.
We have to help our patients come to terms with long term disability.
This often involves painful acceptance and redirection of life. Using a
healer is akin to using a hallucinogenic drug the avoid meeting reality.
I could go on but perhaps this will provoke some discussion. One final
point. At present, we are the healers and I am proud to do that job. If
we associate with charlatans and religious nuts we will lose a lot of
respect from those we are trying to help.
