Dear Dr Risk,
Sorry for the delay in returning your earlier Email, I have been
trying to establish the situation with regards to the NHS Messaging
Service (NMS) and the availabity of the remote IP Message Store. Here
is the current situation.
The NHS Messaging Service (NMS)
Whilst the NMS has been available for a large number of users with
there own Post Box or MTA (Message Transfer Agent) most of the remote
(Dial-in) users are connected using the X25 Dial Service. There has
been an ongoing trial envolving some 97 GP's in South Staffs using the
IP Message Store over BT's HealthNet IP network (NHSnet). This trial
is just concluding and will result in the costs for an IP RUA (Remote
User Agent) and associated software (IP Stack, Etc) being available
via the NHS NMS contract, very soon!. The cost of messaging on the
NMS remains as per the literature I left with you on tariffing.
HealthNet (NHSnet) - BT's Managed IP Network
The costs for use of HealthNet, including the use of the Internet Via
the Managed Firewall for PSTN users with a PC and Modem are as follows
(#=Pounds). Connection #50.00, Rental #45.00/Qtr The only other costs
are for the use of the PSTN dial service, which is charged at local
call rates (ie 0345). If however, you wish to use the Internet the
Code of Connection requires you to use the Stong Authentication
Service which is charged as follows (#=Pounds). Connection #85.00,
Rental #27.50/Qtr
HealthNet WebWorld
To rent web space on BT's WebWorld Server Service, the costs are as
follows (#=Pounds). Standard Service (upto 100MB in 5MB increments),
Registration and set-up #25.00, Rental for 1st 5MB #360.00 p.a.
Additional Disk Space (in 5MB increments) #25.00/Qtr/5MB. There will
also be an admin charge of #25.00 for changes made after the initial
set-up (eg for additional disk space). More about this Service can be
found on the Internet at http://www.bt.com/healthnet
I hope this clarifies the situation, I will call you tomorrow (19th
Nov) to ascertain if Ican be of further assistance. Kind Regards,
Darren Spill, BT.
