Apologies! I have been having problems with my email.There *was* a long
message on the subject..
I had the same problem - patient arrived with a "discharge advice"
asking me to prescribe a highly expensive medication, not known to me,
with no further information.
I phoned the HA Medical Adviser - always helpful - about the two
problems - professional / legal and financial.
I'm not a fundholder.Finance not a problem
Suggested that *if* I wanted to co-operate, should establish
1.responsibility - who does the patient contact , especially OOHs, and
who is responsible for monitoring;
2.need written protocol
3.agree review dates and criteria for continuing or discontinuing
treatment.
I agreed in this case.
Just a point;the drug *cannot* be prescribed on an FP10 unless it has
been approved for prescription by GPs...
Sorry - not a handshake! ;->>
