OK, here's yet one more thing that really bugs me: people wanting
compensation for the slightest thing that goes wrong in their lives.
The belief that things simply go wrong in this life - "shit happens"
- is not a popular method of living one's life these days.
I read in the paper on Saturday about a mistake made in a postnatal
ward. The wrong baby was given to a mother who breastfed the infant.
The real mother of the infant was indignant. The breastfeeding woman
could have had HIV, for goodness sake! No doubt proceedings against
the hospital are imminent.
A twenty year old successfully sues his old school because he was
bullied. He receives an out-of-court settlement of 30 grand (or
something).
Perhaps I'm jealous. Maybe *I* want some compensation for the shit
things in my life. Maybe I'm fed up rolling with the punches and
other assorted cliches. Clearly I cannot impose my way of thinking
on the leeches in society, so perhaps I should join them.
