Lots to choose from.
I have looked at quite a number for a Review Column in our local tabloid.
Harrisons is good, though no different to the text apart from value-added
features such as hypertext linkages to references (abstracts from a small
Medline subset built-in). You can pay extra and get the Drug Refrerence
component also which is very comprehensive but mostly applicable to USA.
If you want to spend some real money (especially with all those Fundholding
profits to think about... try out STAT-Ref (see http://www.tetondata.com)
for all the information you could want on this amazing series.
The Fall 1996 (that's Autumn to us normal people) has just come out a
couple of weeks ago and is a faster better performing version which runs
very well on Windows 95. The selection of books is 28 on a single CD-ROM
(you wouldn't want to buy them _all_ unless you had a spare $US2400 (per
annum!!), but see the Website for the books listed and the optional
packages. The second disc in the Primary Care series is a sunstantial
medline subset of major journals. A great way for a Registrar to keep up
with the latest landmark publications (I guess Registrars are heavily into
EBM).
Teton also makes Harrisons for McGraw-Hill and details are also on the
Teton Website.
There are a host of postgraduate CME-type things around and I haven't seen
them all. But CMC in Portland, Oregon (http://www.cmcresearch.com) has a
great selection of a wide range of medical multimedia products including
the AAFP (American Academy of Family Physicians) Home Study Self-Assessment
Programme. See the Website for details. I will be doing a review of this
soon if you are interested once I've had a detailed look at it. CMC has the
Merck Manual and a number of other medical publications also.
IVI Publishing has a number of CME-type products such as Prime Practice. I
haven't seen this one as yet. Can't remember their Web site - try out
http://www.ivi.com. You never know your luck....
Let me know if you want any reviews forwarded. I lost my hard-drive last
week and will have to retrieve them from my Compaq Notebook when I get the
time....
