Ah - but a really experienced GP will arrange to be
a) in protected time with the registrar
b) at a fundholding/commissioning meeting
c) at a PGEA session.
d) doing a hospital casualty session
e) running an anticoagulant clinic
f) on holiday
g) on sabbatical
h) giving (? receiving) stress counselling on the BMA hotline
i) doing audit of extracontractual referrals
j) doing an industrial session at the local factory
k) at a core services definition group
l) all of the above
when the patient returns, leaving the more junior partner(s) to take their turn
at finding another alternative therapist!
I seem to recall a GP being very embarassed a some years ago by having written
Plumbopenderosis on an insurance line. He was asked at an appeal tribunal what
it meant and had a difficult time explaining it all to a querulous chairman who
would not see a joke and an angry patient who would not see the truth.
