Actually it's been happening for years in rural areas - it's called
"Dispensing Doctors" ;-)) . They order drugs direct from the
wholesaler, GP prescribes acute medication, patient collects from the
dispensary straight after they leave the consulting room. For
repeats, the practice knows the stock required to be available,
patient phones / leaves right-hand side of the FP10, and the
medication is ready anything from 4 to 48 hours later, depending on
the policy of the practice. Some insist on 48 hours, which means
they keep hardly any stock at all. Good business, and much cheaper
than pharmacies.
