EMIS are planning to release their information/decision support software in
Windows format early next year. This will be a continually (electronically)
updated Primary care textbook designed to be used in the consulting room in
the Primary Care setting by all PHCT.
The text is currently based on the very successful Oxford handbooks of
Medicine and Clinical specialties, designed for Junior hospital doctors,
but EMIS require several authors to help update the text to keep it
relevant to all who might use it. The existing text is of a high quality,
but some sections are incomplete. The facility exists to make ideal use of
cross referencing and "multimedia" and needs to reflect current practice
(EBM etc.). Links and references can be suggested to existing works such as
Oxford Texbook of Medicine and Surgery, and ultimately the Internet.
Although the content will be mostly clinical, there will be sections giving
essential information on administration.
The clinical records need to be written wherever possible in a standard
format (aetiology, incidence, presentation, treatment, etc....) so the
material can be assembled into a coherent work.
There is no necessity for authors to have the EMIS clinical system.
If the idea of being involved in the development of such a text excites
you, please E-Mail me for more details.
