A personal note to you firstly to thank you for the excellent material on
your web page. Of ray quality (of light, not Rogers!)
Like you I'm frustrated by conflicting technical stances. I've got one
techie advisor who extolls x400. And another who says it would be
cheaper, easier, and quicker to 'encapsulate' an Edifact message within
an SMTP message.
Next point, for info, Gpass re-development seems to be going well. I
like the strategic technical approach: good open state-of-the-art
products such as Windows NT, MS Back Office, MS Mail and Exchange, and a
similar comms product. First release, perhaps by Easter, will comprise
simply patient registration and built-in IoS. Should thereafter be well
able to accept 'plug-in' modules by any supplier - my interest is to
support Intermediate Care by developing things like Community Hospital
in-patient modules etc.
Last point is to sound you out about a jointly-arranged (BCS PHCSG and my
two-man outfit) two-day meeting for Scottish GPs. I'm keen to consult
more about what a national Primary Care strategy should do, but mostly
I'd like to do something to build informal networks to share progress
etc. Plenty of bits of work to be reported from within Scotland, and of
course it would be valuable to have a round-up of doings down south. But
would a joint venture be not quite the thing for PHCSG?
