Re. Rob Tweed's comments on ADSL.
Today's Independent carries an ad for Netcom, an ISP who are already
offering a 56.0 kbps service.
Yes, I know ISDN offers two times 64kbps , compression and fast dialing,
but IMHO that doesn't justify the 199 UKP connection charge etc.
Also, the merger at the weekend of various cable TV companies and Mercury
into CWC is, again, IMHO a good thing.
One of the barriers up until now was that cable TV franchises couldn't offer a
country-wide service. Hopefully things will now progress rapidly.
A little bird in the undustry told me that one cable TV company in our area
is launching an Internet service very soon.
Cable modems are expected early next year.
