It's nice to see the forum being used to air our frustrations, even if there is
no real answer to be found. Once upon a time, I found it hard to understand
how the patients last doctor could have been so heartless to utter the words
"you'll have to live with it" instead of treating their problem, but now I find
myself saying it to just this group of heartsinks.
Don't actually get them better, it isn't what they want! Let them live with
a cross to bear (heroically and preferably with martyrdom). Clearly it's
unethical to let them suffer too much, but don't confront them with a
denial of their (perceived) illness.
A very "Balint" approach?
Oh, if you're on Meditel, try typing "GOK" as the new problem title for their
latest symptom that has you confused. Short for "God only knows" it
produces an interesting set of suitably vague read codes to chose from.
Much more therapeutic for the Doc than antidepressants.
