The Medicasette was sponsored by a drug company which produces a competing
product. Now there's a surprise. Most of the GPs on the list will have
received colourful advertising fliers in the same vein. It was interesting that
no reference was made to the 12th August BMJ with it's replies. One of these
stated that the average GP might see a case once in 400 years. I know it
sometimes seems that way but does the average GP work for 400 years in the NHS?
The whole thing was one of the best arguments for evidence based medicine that I
have come across recently. What a pity that wasn't quite what was meant. I
think that they have shot themselves in the foot with this one.
