I thought the intention was to let us have _managed_ access to the
internet, via our NHS.net intranet with firewalls securing the data
coming back. This has numerous problems (surprise ;-)) - see Ross Anderson for
details.
Also, as someone pointed out, if everyone is trying to get internet
access through the same narrow gateway we may have access speed
problems.
