I would be very grateful for any comments that you could give me with regard
to a consultancy project that I am very keen to set up. I have previously
worked in a number of GP surgeries on a temporary basis and have always been
struck by the number of inefficient practices that I have seen going on. I
believe that this has occurred because practices have built up over time
without anyone stopping to relook at the whole thing. I therefore would like
to take on some part-time consultancy work with GP practices to look
specifically at this problem (which I believe I am well qualified to do
having a number of years experience in admin and management in all aspects of
the NHS). I would want to be charging about five hundred pounds (forgive me,
can't find the pound sign on this computer!) for this service which would
include a pre-visit to draw up a detailed proposal, observation over 2 or 3
days as necessary, the preparation of a report and a formal presentation as
required. Typical areas to be reviewed would be; the appointments system,
record keeping, letter management, use of IT, management of the reception
desk, telephone management, structure/culture/morale and other items.
My questions are: Do you think this service would be of any value ie am I
likely to get any customers? Is the price I am proposing fair? Do you think
the areas I have outlined are the right ones?
Assuming that I don't get laughed out of town, is there anyone out there who
would be willing to be my guinea pig for a vastly reduced fee? Preferably
within the Yorkshire area (I am based near Beverley, East Yorkshire).
