We run Meditel System 5 ( which we like because it seems we will never
be faced with the need to upgrade ;-) ;-)).
We all read hospital correspondence - as we do this we manually enter
the relevent points of communication - lets face it, this is usually v.
limitted. This is born out in practice as we find that it takes v
little mo=re time to do this than just read the letters - it also means
we have seen the information. If you add to this the fact that you eill
have to enter new medications anyway if they have been changed then this
is not a large extra time commitment.
We toy with the idea of scanning every now and then - but this loses the
advantage of Read coding and ignores our need to digest the info.
People feel daunted by the prospect of doing this manually (computers
generating work etc) BUT the reality once established is the converse -
promise. Our techo stuff saves us oodles of work and time and we have
great records, great audit and I have crap handwriting that I can't
read!
