I discovered this 'make money fast' scam in a newsgroup.
Note the poster's email address and 'organisation'.

Well after reading this on the newgroup page i saw a glimmer of light
that said this realy could work. So i decided to get it rolling.
Only $5 at stake anyway and it does sound a good laugh.
I must apologize also if this has come to the wrong person.
Lets get started with the basic idea.
STEP 1.
Invest your $5 by writing your name and address on five seperate
pieces of paper along with the words:
"PLEASE ADD ME TO YOUR MAILING LIST."
(In this way, you're not just sending a dollar to someone; you're
paying for a legitimate service.) Fold a $1 bill, money order,
or bank
note inside each paper, and mail them by standard U. S. Mail to
the following
[remainder snipped - we've all seen this kind of thing]
