And I thought I was cynical :-)
(BTW I recently filled in a form for my old medical school - Leeds - and
they wanted some background stuff, achievements, etc. I wrote Professional
Development - Cynic, Iconoclast and Heretic).
Anyway, on a more serious note (sic), there are good reasons for diverting
NHS resources elsewhere. If there was full employment, health generally
would be so much better, and patients wouldn't have time to come and see us.
There Health Gain for you :-) For the effects of unemployment just look at
our country and current health service usage, especially in primary care.
For an even better example of unemployment and poverty leading to ill
health, take a look at Russia.
But what it really all boils down to, where the #### does all our taxes get
spent?
We pay more and more and more and more, but get less and less and less. At
least the NHS has had inflation matching increase in money, education
spending has been steadily decreasing in real terms for decades :-(
