Verification of digital information can be achieved using digital
signatures, timestamps & certificates. It's not at all impossible,
do you have a credit-card with a PIN? Do you use PGP? Let's not reinvent
the wheel - we can verify if anybody has the ability to come up with
some on-line PGEA...
my reply:
The University of Derbys multimedia MSc in General Practice is entirely distance
learning. Most of the course material is on CD, and we use a website for
bulletin board discussion. We are developing links with the MTL material to
these sites.
We have been approved for a full year's PGEA for each of the 8 taught modules.
As far as security goes. The university demands that students complete a
"linguistic fingerprinting" test at the start of the course. Submitted
assignments can be tested against this.
So we can verify who is submitting the assignment.
Whether a student has done all the work or not can be tested by the assignment
itself. Frankly, if a student can submit an assignment that fulfills all the
generic assessment criteria for Masters level, plus the module outcomes, then
they have done a lot of work somewhere along the line and deserve the PGEA as
well as the PG cams credits.
