As usual while the English waffle around trying to arrange something, the Scots
just get on with it. Mind you we are a slightly smaller nation numerically and
it is thus a bit easier.
Alan Hyslop was arranging a major conference on the of networking within the
NHS in Scotland and several list members were there. I am in a position to
confirm that Alan does indeed exist (and is no mean lecturer and organiser). He
joins the select list of brave folk who have given a live demonstration of the
WWW in a lecture theatre. And it worked !
Sue Welsh spoke about OMNI and Paul Miller reported on one of the discussion
groups. One or two others met at lunch.
The issue of confidentiality was dealt with as Chechnea. Everyone agreed it was
important but agreed to go on making plans hoping it would be sorted before the
crunch. Mercury's firewall seems to have a one way valve but BT's was said to
have holes in both directions (So that's a firewall?).
So what's the outlook for Monday morning Surgery? Not quite yet. But for IOS,
Admin, Audit, Research - yes once security is sorted satisfactorily, Someone
mentioned encryption but no details. Meanwhile the idea of patients surfing to
find Hospital or practice leaflets is reasonable and Paul's is already there!
Keep looking
Tom
