I have no recall of the references, but there has been a lot of successful
work done on scheduling systems in the past - I remember seeing one which
handled ships waitng to dock in Dubai, or somewhere, which might be
appropriate (type of ship/cargo/dockside facilities/e.t.a./ etc.).
An alternative free market approach, of course, is to give all patients
awaiting ops. tokens appropriate for their needs and put them into
ambulances (Stagecoach could have the contract), which then drive randomly
around the country looking for a vacant bed in the appropriate specialty
.......... or has that one already been tried in Stockport and found to be
a failure?
