Greetings James
I would be interested in the OTC pack. But depends on the price.
References to the UK products may be of very limited usefulness here in NZ
but we are considering a series of articles for a local medical magazine on
the place of OTC medicines, and this may be of some benefit as a resource.
I have just given a 40 minute talk this week to our Non-Prescription
Medicineds Association on changes in OTC Medicines and I can forward you a
copy of the talk if you were interested (!!)
Perhaps the local NZ NMA would pay for a copy of the modules for me?

Subject: Training pack on OTC Medications
Date: Thursday, 5 September 1996 09:07

Dear Colleagues,

A short training module on OTC Medications

I write to announce the availability of an education module on OTC drugs
that will be of interest to anyone involve in GP, Pharmacist or Practice
Nurse education.

The OTC education module was developed by a group of GPs, Medical Advisers
and Pharmacists. The module is designed for use by uni or preferably
multi-disciplinary groups of GPs, pharmacists and Practice Nurses. The
module addresses the clinical, lega, and financial issues around OTC Drugs.
It also explores the acceptability or otherwise of OTCs to patients, GPs
Pharmacists and Practice Nurses and their potential role in the management
of self-limiting or non-serious illness.

The pack contains an extensive resource manual, suggested group work tasks
with guidance for the group leader, feedback forms, and a video of clinical
scenarios that sets the scene for the group discussions.

The multidisciplinary group that developed the pack is an independent group
of GPs, medical advisers and pharmacists and includes academics, RCGP
examiners and an ex editor of a medical journal so the quality ( I modestly
believe) is very good. The project was funded by a "no strings attached"
grant from the Proprietary Association of Great Britain and was prompted by
research on the acceptability and use of OTCs published in a series of
articles on OTCs in the BMJ this year by Colin Bradley et al.

There is unfortunately a charge for the pack to cover some of the costs of
development and printing
The project is non-profit making

If you have any queries on the pack please e-mail me direct

Many Thanks

Jim
