In the USA you would find a wide variety of opinions. In my practice I
would do cards for occult blood. If negative, I would seriously consider
colonoscopy or an air contrast barium enema. You didn't mention if this
patient is a smoker. If so, I would definitely get a chest x-ray. If not, I
would get one only if the patient wanted one.
I would do a digital prostate exam and get a PSA.
I am not sure any of these would make a big difference, but with the
medicolegal climate in this country I would be foolish not to do these
tests.
