Have a look at the work being done up in Scotland on patient-held
health cards. Fascinating and has enormous potential.
I think this will be one of the ways forward. It *empowers* the
individual, it is sound technology and, in this and future climate
when patients will either be very mobile, selective about their
doctor, or changing doctors frequently when we no longer have the cradle to
grave relationship with patients, the *card/meditag* comes into its
own.
It would certainly have a psoitive impact on the soul searching,
agonising, nonetheless essential debate about security
The EU is producing standards on medical smart cards etc. Someone
elase may be able to give you details on that.
