Aha! Here is the nub of it. This goes both ways. You have to *earn* your
patient's respect, and in my opinion the only way you achieve this is by
listening to and respecting them. This my trainer taught me a long time ago
- a wise GP who showed me how to earn the respect of even the worst
heartsink patients, and thus to decrease the workload.
But this takes lots of time, and as people have pointed out in this thread,
it seems that to do this you need less patients and less money. I don't know
if it is fully achievable even then.
Thanks for all the comments btw. To update you all - Tom is much better,
although still not eating, and quite irritable. The practice manager
promised to get back to us about our complaint last Monday, but we have yet
to hear from them. Says it all really.

I think this is a sad way to be. Take the lead - start respecting your
patients.
