Apologies for cross-posting
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce the publication of my new book: *Reconfiguring
Drinking Cultures, Gender, and Transgressive Selves* (See the discount code
below).
The book focuses on the gendering of alcohol, transgressive drinking and
sexual practices among young people. Combining Western and non-Western
theorisations, the book provides insights into the alcohol industry’s role
in gendered transgressive drinking and sexual practices, highlighting the
need to urge caution in generalising youth drinking decline. I explored two
interrelated themes: (Part I)- how young people enact masculinities and
femininities through transgressive (and conforming) drinking practices that
reconfigure drinking cultures and (Part II)- how global/local alcohol
corporations contribute to gendered transgressive drinking and sexual
practices. The alcohol corporations in Nigeria produce and market the
so-called sex enhancers (herbal alcoholic bitters) and target youth. They
also use drinking games to market their brands, rewarding winners with more
alcohol or money. If you are interested in decolonising gender scholarship
or commercial determinants of health, then grab your copy.
The book is published by Palgrave Macmillan
