Webinar:
The Second Wave of Classic Transnational Indonesian Exploitation Cinema
In the 2020s, there is a second wave regarding the global re-distribution
of classic Indonesian exploitation films. Some of the titles are “Special
Silencers” (“Serbuan Halilintar”, 1982, Mondo Macabro), “Santet” 1 & 2
(1988, 1989, Vinegar Syndrome) as well as “Srigala” & “Escape from
Hellhole” (Kawin Kontrak, 1983) both by Terror Vision; and more titles to
come.
Film Department - BINUS University proudly presents a unique opportunity to
explore "The Second Wave of Classic Transnational Indonesian Exploitation
Cinema" through a webinar.🎦
We invite Pete Tombs, co-founder of Mondo Macabro DVD that re-distributed
films such as “Lady Terminator” and “The Warrior” (Jaka Sembung) in the
2000s and the 2010s, to discuss this phenomenon. We also invite Dr. Iain
Robert Smith (senior lecturer at King’s College London) to analyze the
global contexts of the phenomenon, particularly remakesploitation, and the
comparison with other countries such as Turkey and the Philippines.
Ekky Imanjaya PhD (Film Department, Binus University) will host the
webinar.
This webinar is a must-attend for anyone interested in film studies,
particularly transnational cinema, and Indonesian cinema, offering
valuable insights into these resurgent study fields.
