CFP Climate Change: Power and Narratives
Westminster University, 18th June 2024, 2-5pm
Keynote speaker: Claudia Sarmento – Climate Journalism in Brazil
This second network event of the year is encouraging positive responses to the challenges we face in relation to climate change, the media and issues of eco-sustainability. Following COP28 there have been mixed responses to how much progress was achieved at this seminal event. While we acknowledge the significance of negative media portrayals around climate change, this event also seeks to continue exploring positive ways forward.
Potential topics could include, but is in no way limited to:
Climate change and activism
Gender intersections with climate change
COP28 fallout and outcomes
Looking ahead to COP29 and key points to address
Uses of energy and intersections with the media
The planet onscreen
The planet and genre
Global contexts and geographical specific issues
Funding and climate change
Climate journalism
Climate change on social media
Climate campaigning
Celebrity and Climate Change
Please send abstracts of 250-300 words, along with a short bio, to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> by Friday 26th April 2024.
We welcome individual paper submissions as well as panel submissions, and screenings. This event will be held in person (although there is an option for speakers to present online) and is free to attend.
All best,
Caroline
