Dear Colleagues (and Dr Pereira)
How about we define the Lesbian Project as it defines itself. A project that represents its constituency - same sex attracted lesbians. The project has nothing to do with trans identifying people. Why define it in relation to what it is not?
For what it is worth, I have fought this fight a lot. The prejudice against lesbian who define their own sexuality is also known as homophobia. The hostility and negativity towards women who hold the view that there are times and places where it is appropriate, logical and rational to organise on the basis of biological sex is a well worn prejudice that results in the type of name calling that started with Prof Phipps ridiculous message and is now continuing.
Why do women in this list feel the need to continue to name call? I find it alarming that this is provoked by simply mentioning The Lesbian Project and advertising a job vacancy there. Can we agree that it is time to stop showing such rank prejudice on an academic listserve?
Why not just live and let live for goodness sake instead of attempting to delegitimise and provoke.
J
