Dance Research Matters Networks March/April 2024 Newsletter

CROSS-NETWORK NEWS
Save the new date for Dance Research Matters mid-point event – 10th September 2024
The Dance Research Matters mid-point hybrid event will now be taking place on the 10th of September 2024. It will be in Coventry, but the venue is being finalised. More details in the May 2024 newsletter.

DRM Network ResDance Series: Episode 2
On Tuesday 16th April ResDance launches the second episode of the Dance Research Matters Network series: Link: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/resdance

In this episode, Vicky Hunter (Bath Spa University), Daniela Perazzo (Kingston University) and Michelle Elliot (Bath Spa University) from the Dancing Otherwise: Exploring Pluriversal Practices Network share insight into the focus of the network, which aims to explore how practices created by artists from diverse backgrounds and artistic perspectives, produce new understandings, positionalities and new modes of knowing. They reflect upon their network experiences thus far and offer insights into their approaches to the network events, underpinned by practices of care and creating new opportunities for dialogue. Throughout the episode, they consider what being otherwise means to them, the potential of Pluriversal thinking in allowing us to think more universally and how such provocation may in turn, contribute to a wider dance research ecology.

NETWORK UPDATES
Critical Dance Pedagogy Network
On the 1st March 2024 the Critical Dance Pedagogy Network had the first of four hybrid symposium events. The symposium, ‘Exploring Intersectionality, Intertextualities, Identities, and Inequalities’, engaged in discussions and workshops exploring social assumptions, structural power relations, and inequities within dance and dance education.

Dancing Otherwise Network: Exploring Pluriversal Practices
Over the 12th and 13th April the Dancing Otherwise Network hosted ‘Choreographing the Pluriverse’ at Bath Spa University for an invited group comprising 5 choreographers and 26 participants (dance researchers, PGR students and interested others) at Bath Spa university . The event involved sharing approaches to making, moving and relating to one another through choreographic approaches. Black Bark films created a short film capturing some of the activities and the general tone, mood, feel of relating and 'Being Otherwise' central to the network's aims and ethos.
