Appropriations of Hume from Central Europe
Budapest, 13-14 September, 2024
Venue: Corvinus University of Budapest / HUN-REN Research Centre for
the Humanities
Organizers: Tamás Demeter, Hynek Janousek, Iulian Toader
The organizers invite abstracts of about 300 words of presentations on
those aspects of Hume’s reception originating in the region. Berlin,
Vienna, and Prague had been important centres of developing Hume’s
philosophical legacy into its centrality so visible in various and
diverse fields of inquiry. Mach, Husserl, Carnap, Neurath,
Reichenbach, Kolnai can all be included in the list of names
indicating the origins of Hume’s significance for contemporary
debates. Their influence would spread to influential philosophical
schools and communities in Britain, the United States and France. We
welcome contributions reflecting on the earliest traces of Hume’s
reception in the region as well as discussions on the subsequent
widespread influence of this reception in various philosophical
traditions.
Abstracts should be sent to [log in to unmask]
