Call for papers - Centre for Converged Screen Media and Entertainment (COSME) – 1st Annual COSME PGR Conference - University of Liverpool – Wednesday 1st of May
Keynote speaker: Dr. Becky Bartlett from the University of Edinburgh
The 1st Annual COSME PGR conference, “Screen Convergences: Pasts, Presents, and Futures”, addresses the profound and complicated ways screen media have been shaped by cultures of convergence. The Centre for Converged Screen Media and Entertainment (COSME) is an interdisciplinary research centre based at The University of Liverpool that aims to examine the often radical ways in which media convergence has impacted screen entertainment. Focusing on technological, industrial, cultural and economic dimensions of this process, COSME interrogates the ways that industry practices are influenced by cultures of convergence and seeks to understand the rapid transformations that permeate screen media and the entertainment they produce.
For our inaugural conference, we invite abstracts from Postgraduate Researchers exploring any aspect of screen media convergence, whether focusing on screen industries, cultures, aesthetics, technologies, or histories. The scope of this event is intentionally broad in the hopes of facilitating new networks of communication and collaboration.
To that end we welcome any papers that examine screen convergence – possible topics could be:
Screen Convergence and Streaming and VOD (YouTube, Netflix, and IMDB)
Screen Convergence and Social Media (Tik Tok, X, and Instagram)
Screen Convergence and Hollywood Current Trends in TV, Film, and Media
Screen Convergence and the Past – (Cable Television, Music Videos, and Network TV)
Screen Convergence and Music
Screen Convergence and Technology
Screen Convergence and Disability, Race, Gender, and Sexuality
Screen Convergence outside Hollywood (The Global South, Emerging Markets, Historically Neglected Markets)
Screen Convergence and above-the-line and below-the-line labour – precarity, unemployment, and power
Screen Convergence and the Future
This conference will be held across one day at the University of Liverpool’s main campus on Wednesday 1st of May -exact venue TBD.
Abstracts should be no longer than 250 words. Please include a 50 word biography, including institutional affiliation.
Please email your abstracts to: [log in to unmask]
Deadline: Friday, 15th March
We will notify you by Friday, 22nd March if your paper has been accepted.
