Facilitator Biography:
"My career has focussed on workforce and organisational development, in public and private sectors, moving into the cultural sector 23 years ago.
Starting as head of training for the Science Museum Group, I led the function and implemented innovative leadership development; at National Museums Scotland highlights included the development of their first Competency Framework, at Historic Environment Scotland my role was in organisational transformation, leading on organisational identity, and employee engagement and at National Trust for Scotland I delivered a comprehensive online resource supporting organisational change.
My role at the Museums Association leads on workforce in the broadest sense, from research to funding, strategy to delivery, providing career workshops and guidance, speaking on ethics, equity, and wellbeing; and leading our formal professional development programmes, the Associateship, the Fellowship, our Mentoring for All programmes and the MA’s Online Learning programme.
One of my career highlights is Sticks and Stones: Bullying in Museums which highlighted the scale, extent and diversity of bullying experience. The report and recommendations aim to affect sector change. More recently the Front of House Charter for Change, and the Workforce Wellbeing Research findings.
I volunteer in the sector in a number of capacities:
• on behalf of Scottish Government on their Recognition Scheme Panel
• with Arts Council England sitting on the UK Accreditation Committee
• as an executive Board Member, leading on inclusion, for the Heritage Volunteers Group
• as a Board Member for GLAM Cares, a care and support network for the sector
In addition, I freelance in the sector as a mentor, coach, facilitator, and trainer, specialising in inclusive recruitment and selection, performance management, developing others and leadership.
