We are inviting you to submit a paper for the upcoming Basic Income World Congress held at Bath University, UK, in August 2024. In this Congress, we wish to cultivate a festival of radical ideas along with a rich academic component, and we encourage submissions from civil society, political action and independent actors on issues of social justice, ecological sustainability, basic income and beyond.

We seek theoretical, empirical, political and/or creative submissions around basic income’s transformative social and ecological possibilities, covering what we know, what we still don’t, and what additional or complementary policies and programming are essential in achieving transformative change. We welcome contributions that are critical of a Universal Basic Income.

BIEN 2024 is focused on Basic Income’s potential as a tool for social transformation towards an economically just, politically inclusive and ecologically sustainable world. The Congress theme is thus about constructing a transformative vision of society- built on the principles of universal sufficiency, social and distributive justice, inclusion, care and ecological sustainability- and exploring the role of basic income in that vision, and the best strategies to achieve it. See full description of the theme of the congress, here (https://www.bien2024.net/theme).

Participants have two options for submissions. One to submit a paper or presentation to one of the existing panels being hosted. See full list here (https://www.bien2024.net/panels). These papers will be reviewed by the conveners of each of the panels. Second, if your paper of presentation does not fit any of these panels, they can be submitted to the general stream. These submissions will be reviewed by the Call for Papers team of BIEN 2024. Some of the emerging streams across the current panels include.

Food and Land
Gender
Ecological Sustainability
Politics and Political Economy
Theory and Philosophy
Pilots and Experiments
Funding and Finance
Games
Creative Contributions
Regionally Focused Streams
These streams are merely some of the nascent categories, and we welcome and will accept contributions beyond the themes and formats described above.

How to submit?

To propose a paper or presentation, please fill in the form here (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdJ-tT04FDNWpbNn44GAvM7htYpmnnV7xilvPhPWA-mk8eMWg/viewform).

The deadline for submissions is the 15th of April 2024. In case of any queries, write to [log in to unmask], and don’t forget to buy a ticket at https://www.bien2024.net and follow up on Social Media for updates on X (formerly twitter) @UBIbath

If you could also forward this to anyone else you believe this to be relevant to that would be greatly appreciated! We want this call to reach as far as possible, so this would really help us achieve this!

Many thanks for your support, BIEN2024 Organising Team
