Closing the gender gap in financial inclusion: Opportunities and barriers
21st February 2024
12-3pm
Orchard Hotel, Beeston Lane, Nottingham NG7 2RJ
I would like to invite you to a catered lunch and afternoon discussion on the 21st of February. Dr Nora Wikoff and Kathryn Brookfield will discuss factors underpinning the stubborn gender gap in financial capability and wellbeing. This afternoon event begins with a lunch-time discussion by Dr Nora Wikoff about gender differences in financial knowledge and confidence which in turn perpetuate gender gaps in wealth and retirement preparedness. Her findings suggest that greater confidence with numbers can help to close these gaps by boosting women's involvement in and contribution to household financial decision-making.
Kathryn Brookfield's research provides an important caveat by highlighting ways in which abusive partners use financial services to control and monitor their partners. The session will end with a discussion of how to policies and practices can help mitigate the gender gap in financial inclusion.
This event is limited to 35 in-person attendees, but it will be accessibly via Teams for remote attendance.
