Online Q Methodology Workshop - Yunus Centre for Social Business and Health, Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU)
Are you interested in studying opinions, values, attitudes, motivations or beliefs? Are you looking for a methodology that combines the in-depth subjectivity of qualitative approaches with the mathematical techniques associated with factor analysis? Well why not check out Q methodology!?
Q methodology combines qualitative and quantitative techniques to study subjectivity. The main steps involve the rank ordering of a collection of items, typically statements of opinion, onto a grid (a Q-sort) and factor analysis to explore patterns of similarity between Q-sorts. The identified shared views (or factors) are represented by idealised Q-sorts which are then interpreted and described.
The Yunus Centre, GCU, is offering an Online Q Methodology Workshop. It will be delivered online, running over four afternoon sessions – 9-10th & 13-14th May, 2024– starting at 1pm each day.
This workshop is designed for those looking for an introduction to Q methodology and is especially suited for people with limited or no prior experience. It will be led by experts in Q methodology drawing on examples from their own research as well as the wider literature. This will be an interactive workshop providing an overview of the essential steps for conducting a Q study covering concourse theory, statement selection, P-set selection, Q-sorting, factor analysis and data interpretation. There will also be the opportunity for a one-to-one surgery session where participants can seek advice on their own Q study with one of the facilitators.
Course fee:
• £400 for students
• £550 academics/public sector
• £700 private sector
